I recently loaded Windows XP onto my PC (Pentium 4, 1GB RAM, 2.8GHz Intel Processor. The installation went great, HOWEVER - I can't find the Internet Explorer program, or icon? I need this to connect to the Internet and my DSL server - Bell South.
Is IE hiding? How do I find it and place the icon/program on my desktop? Can I download IE from the Internet, then update it for XP? Where can I find it? Please help!!!

Try going to Start, Set Program Access and Defaults. Under IE see if it has been set to disabled.

If WhatsThisBoxFor's suggestion doesn't work, the file used to start Internet Explorer is named iexplore.exe. Use the Search feature on the Start menu to search the harddrive for iexplore.exe, then put a shortcut to it wherever you want it.

Be Careful If you do this incorrectly you could break your computer!!!!
go to start, run, type regedit and press ok. under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE open SOFTWARE, then open, Microsoft, then open Active Setup, then open Installed components. YOU should see a bunch of keys, open {89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}. Look under its contents on the right side and find IsInstalled; double click it. This should open a popup window, there will be a spot were you can type and it will be labeled Value data: If the value is 0 then change it to 1 and click ok and exit regedit. Otherwise click cancel. Thats all i can tell you to check. |

Right click on the desktop and select properties. IN the display properites select desktop. In that window press the customize desktop button and it will let you put icons on the desktop for internet explorer, my computer etc.
