windows xp startup error

Hmm, I'm getting an error on startup. This seems to have happened after Spybot caught a program called Wild Tangent, which from a brief surf on the Internet seems to be associated with AOL Instant Messenger. In any case, there must be something it didn't remove. The error window says RUNDLL in the upper left-hand corner. The error message says:

C:\Program Files\Wild Tangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine400.dll

The specified module could not be found.

Can anyone shed light on this?

Thanks in advance.

run msconfig from the Start/run option and uncheck the Rundll file in the startup tab.

Hey, thanks Panama! That does the trick. Now, a further question. It seems now I have to open the computer in selective startup. I don't think that's a problem, but is it true that now that the thing is on my startup list, there's no getting rid of it? Isn't there some way to just erase all memory of this unwanted element?

Next time you start up and the selective start up box pops up, check the box to not show this anymore and say ok. It should be gone on subsequent starts/restarts.

Thanks, I've got that now, but will this item always stay in my startup list? In other words, if some little bug like this comes along and sits itself down in the startup list, is my only recourse to use selective startup? Is there no way to eliminate it completely?

There is a way to remove those unwanted entries from the Startup list but it involves Registry editing. Personally, I don't worry about it. Too much trouble just to remove them from an area most folks seldom visit.

Rather than open an old thread, you should start your own and fully explain your problem.
