I belive you may already have the service pack 2 installed, that is not a name of a bata version.

On the subject. should I install sp2. I had it, then yesterday the whole pc was hit by virus/trojan, but I could not do anything. Just cleaned install everything now. Should I get sp2, or its fine without sp2 on my pc, I have all the other updates. Now currently sp2 is being downloading in the background at 50%.

Yes you have a beta of SP2 (the RC-2). The final build is 2180.

@mystvearn
Well, the best way is to download it once and slipstream it. I recommend to get SP2.

Don't get it from Windows Update unless you are on dialup. The best way is to get the full download from here

Don't be confused by the term "for IT professionals and developers", that's just the way Microsoft tries to get user to use Windows Update. In reality, there is only one SP2, not different versions. Just different ways to distribute.
So, download that file, it's the entire SP2.

You can now run the exe file to install SP2.

Also, slipstream it into your Windows XP CD, so that you won't have to download and install the whole thing again.

If you'd like SP2 on CD free from MS, order it here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...s/default.mspx

Takes less that 1 week usually.

In your first post you wrote:

Which means you have RC-2 installed. Uninstall it, and then install the full SP2.

Although.. .. if I remember correctly, I installed the full SP2 over top of the RC-2 . hmm. Anyway, uninstall it first.

Add/Remove programs.

If it's not there, then you can't. You will need to do a clean install. Make sure you slipstream SP2 before doing a clean install, if you need to.
