XP..Setup is inspecting hdw config...then reboots
I have a new hardrive that I am trying to install XP on. My old setup on this comp was a onboard RAID 0. This time I am ditching the RAID & using 1 drive.
I have changed the setting in the bios from RAID to ATA 133, along with the boot sequence to boot to CD first. Reboot, and enter the bios, and the bios identifies the HD correctly as the Master as well as the CD drive. So the computer IS seeing the drives OK. I have formatted, & partitioned the drives (6 partitions) with the first one primary, and the rest logical, using Partition Magic from a floppie...all seems OK (& have verified the partitions with another floppie proggie System Commander...in System Comander I have even hidden all partitions, except the primary). When I boot with the XP install disk in the CD drive...it takes me to this line "Setup is inspecting your hardware configuration..."...pauses for about a minute and then reboots. I have left this go for about an hour...hoping the install would start...to no avail...just keeps rebooting. Prior to that line above, I also get this line "MBUltra 133 bios is not installed because there are no drives attached"...I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem or not. I have not installed the motherboard drivers that came with the Mobo. I attempted to do this the same way I did the XP install sequence, but it would not boot to the CD drive. The rest of the comp is OK...since I am able to reverse this change back to my RAID drives, & everthing works OK...all biet crippled. Lastly...I tried useing my Win98 disk (trying to rule a XP disk failure) and it would not even boot to the CD...strange...although the 98 disk is an upgrade. Any ideas??? thanks-larry |
