It worked! dual 98/2000 system er.. a...
Well, I got a dual boot Win 98/Win2000 system running on my previously Win 98 only system. Only... I am not sure how...
During the Windows 2000 install, when I tried to install in a parition, I got an error message saying there was driver or hardware problems. I tried installing new drivers on the Win 98 side, but I had problems and it started locking. In fact Win 98SE was crashing right and left. So I decided I was going to do a whole HD reinstall, but before that, I decided to install Win 2000 to REPLACE Win 98S to see what would happen. Halfway through that process it gave me an option to creat a new partition, I tried but it failed. So then it was back to the Win 2000 install process, it ran through it a couple of times, saying there was a bad system file...saying the install process failed... then it evenutally continued on. And evenutally I had Win 2000 running. And when I restarted I saw I had a choice of Win 98 and Win 2000. And both of them work! [I am writing this with Windows 2000] Win 2000 is quite stable so far.... but as far as I can tell I only have one parition, with two OSes on that. Could that be?? I am able to access Windows 98 files and the folder on that C drive. It looks like Win 2000 REPLACED Win 98SE... but how could I still run 98? Whatever happend, it works good... |

O.K. I am on the Windows 98SE side now. It appears I have one partiion, with two Windows folders, Windows and Winnt, and the ability to dual boot to either Win 98SE or Win 2000. And the abilitly to acess all files from either system.
I hadn't expected this... but it is running nice on both sides. Hate to White out the drive now.. Any comments? Regards |

Ah, I used it before... it was incredibly stable. And so far it is working quite good on this machine.
I am just not sure about the two systems in one partition... so far, it works. |
