Use XP on a different MB?
When I need more power, I have always just changed out the motherboard, cpu, memory and kept on using windows 95/98.
Can this be done with XP? Is there anything special that has to be done? |

I thought Microsoft had collected information about everything in the installed configuration and recorded a numerical value. If too much is changed from the number they have on record, then my understanding is that XP would only function for 30 days and then have to be re-installed. And the next 30, etc.
They supposedly did this to prevent what they consider to be "software piracy". This supposedly doesn't apply to XP releases sent to large companies. I hope this isn't true. If it is, maybe it will cause people to migrate to Linux! |

yes that is all true
BUT it is as simple as making a toll free call to the number on the screen to get a new activation code and you on your way again, takes less than 5 min. and only if a x amount of changes are made. |

I changed the mb for a buddy a few months back;no problems, just had to reactivate, which I did over the net and he was up and running without so much as a hitch.
