BSOD annoyance on win2k

Whenever there's a power outage in our area (frequent, as we're very rural), my wife's computer always boots back up afterwards to a BSOD with the 'inaccessible boot device' error. Booting in safe mode then doing a restart fixes this, but it's a little annoying.

I find this a little weird, as I was using this system previously without that problem. The only hardware difference is a different HD and a DVD drive instead of the CDR. It's win2k SP2.

Other than that, the system is solid as a rock (self-build), and hasn't manifested any other problems whatsoever.

Any ideas?

If this is a common problem, I'd think seriously about investing in a UPS. Just the constant voltage fluctuations has to be tough on electronics.

Yeah, not a big fan of UPS systems, I've found in the past that batteries crap out too easily. I stick mainly to surge protectors and build my comps with quality power supplies and I haven't lost a PC or a component because of power irregularities yet.

I just thought this problem was weird, seeing as there's nothing actually wrong with the comp, it's just win2k being finicky.

Get a line interactive UPS before you DO cause more damage. Surge protectors do nothing with voltage fluctuations, they just try to block big spikes. Quality UPS units have about a 3 year battery life - and $50 units are NOT quality.

My wife had a cow the first APC Smart UPS 1000 I bought. Now she wants one for her PC and I will have one of those $50 pieces of junk GLC speaks of to get rid of.

We sell nothing but APC and Tripplite UPS units - and do a fair business in replacement batteries. We haven't had one yet that hasn't gone at least 3 years. We get replacement batteries from Batteries Plus - both APC and Tripp use industry standard 12 volt sealed lead acid batteries, which are quite inexpensive. The same battery that APC wants $54 for, we get for $17 and resell for $25. Big units do not use bigger batteries - they just use multiple batteries in parallel.
