Hello everybody.
Iam using windows98,just few minutes back as I was reading a PDF file and was downloading a HP670C Printer drivers from the hp.com, that suddenly the entire screen became blue and a fatal error messege appeared on the screen , after when i pressed the enter button, I got another error messege stating that my system is dangerously low in resources . Kindly tell me why am I getting these error messeges, I have checked the resources in system information, my c drive has 6662 MB of space available out of 9991MB , 57% system resources are free. System resources is a part of overall memory. It is used for input and the graphics display (open windows) and applications. Generally, an application won't take over 10% of the resouces.... but a poorly operating program can take way more than it should and drag your resources down. That may be the case. It is also possible that the download was taking a lot.
Still, it is strange, 57% should be enough. I suspect you had a program going that was at fault and taking more resouces than it should, at times, and that is how you got the message. |

There are two places I like to recommend for some background research for folks who want to understand the whole "System Resources" situation in Win9x. One is aumha.org's article http://www.aumha.org/win4/a/resource.htm . . . and the other is the "Startup Tips" section over at pacs-portal http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk
Trimming any unnecessary processes loading a system startup might help, and might improve overall system response a little. Spyware and viruses tend to muck up system resources, too: to make sure to run a thorough full-system scan for both, perhaps also double-checking with an online scan [HouseCall is pretty good http://housecall.trendmicro.com - & there are many others that are effective as well] You could get these messages even though you have hundreds of megabytes of free memory and gigabytes of free hard drive space = it's just because of some confusing vocabulary used to describe the resources. They aren't the same thing as physical RAM or hard drive space = it's all explained pretty clearly in the articles over at the aumha and pacs-portal sites. Best of luck! . . . Gary |
