RegistryRescue

Downloaded trial version, it says I have 348 invalid registry entries.
1. Can all these invalid entries slow down operating system (mine has been slow lately (also the computers)
2. Is it safe to let a program like this remove or fix all those entries (have to purchase it so fixes can be done).

Running Windows XP Home Sp1 W/all updates

1. Generally speaking yes - a little little bit.

2. Generally speaking yes.

But, ONE wrong deletion and it "could" render your pc useless. (till you reformat etc...)

Might search this board and see what everyone else is using. I use RegSeeker and removed 2,200 old/invalid entries on a co-workers pc today...

Some things to look out for

I started using some of the registry cleaners and pc tune up softwares when my pc started to take a dive. One thing to be cautious of is backing up your files or using system restore on xp. Most of the programs I tried have a feature that you can automatically restore or un do what it did, and for good reasons I found out.
After I tried PC Bug doctor, everything seemed to work much better, until I found out when I clciked on my MSN Mail icon I could not access my email.
I got on line with MSN Tech and they showed me how to reinstall the mssing .dll file, and now it seems PC Bug Doctor has also fixed that problem, or at least it no longer does that.
Also tried System Mechanic, and it too seemed to do a good job, but a solitaire game completely dissappeared without a trace. Also, during a reboot,
it hung up on the blue screen that said it was backing up files, etc. and it wasn't until the next day that I had to turn it off, and when I rebooted (third time) it finally worked, so that was pretty unnerving, ergo~ you may also want to make sure you have a reboot on disk when using this program.
overall my pc is running somewhat better, but it still is slower than when it was new, and freezes up on mouse clicks occassionaly, which were the problems I was having originally! So just be sure and back up your files.
