Hi all
Look take all I say with a pinch of salt (because I am a newbie). But the following definitely worked for me when all seemed very very dark. I was using Windows 2000 Professional and making a lot of updates and so on having just put on another hard disk - and so and so - you know what I mean. Anyway I just fired up Outlook Express Version 6 [6.00.2800.1106] - but it DID NOT COME UP. Instead a message indicating that the "file msoe.dll could not be loaded". Well of course I tried over the next 90 minutes to get it to work. What I was doing of course was PANICKING! Looked on Yahoo and Google and could see dark murmerings about this particular file in certain circumstances - but no answers. So I then thought I would download Internet Explorer 6 again..[6.00.2800.1106] from Microsoft. I SAVED the file (note this) and then double-clicked it and something happened to the effect that matters had been installed. Re-booted - NOTHING with OE just same message. I was about to go to bed and next morning start re-loading operating system and software again over 2 to 3 days...and I decided wearily to try once more at Microsoft. This time I decided not to SAVE but to OPEN the file, which I did but was advised that I had the latest versison and not to do so. I went against this advice and did so. After about 5-10 minutes it downloaded and installed and re-booted. Came on with messages about rectifying Internet Tools and so on.... This time it worked. That's it folks. I just hope this little story might help someone who comes up against this problem. Because it is not nice - you can't send or receive your emails. FULL STOP - that's it and there is not an easy way round it. UNTIL I hear you say ....! You come to this site. Go on guys tell me what simple way I could have got round this!!! Make my day..... .....David

Hey Dave,
You just helped me. I have that problems on my Win 98SE OS, where I have all my email files. I thought it might be because I was running Win 2000 on the same parition, and was wondering how to fix it. So thanks for the answer. P.S. This occurred on my old white box made to order computer. I had transferred inbox files to the Win 2000 side, I think you have been doing the same recently, right? That may be what caused it. |

The PS regarding inbox files to the Win 2000 side comment you make. Not sure on this. I did take over from my Win 98SE OS a lot of files and copied them to the 2nd partition on this disk I am using. And, if you like used this as a store of DOWNLOADED files of all sorts that I had paid for and did not want to lose. My Win 2000 is on the first partition of this disk and the 2nd partition is simply a storage area. However, I believe with Outlook Express I did get it working OK before the disaster I have written about. I think I did this by IMPORTING to current OE earlier from that Application Data folder which I had copied over, where I drilled down to somewhere like Outlook Express via Identities etc.. So probably not I think. I seem to recall when looking over the Yahoo and Google searches about this file a reference to a belief that sometimes OTHER software you are using can cause this (what I would call some sort of corruption) in that msoe.dll file. Nevertheless I believe what happened to me will only help you, if you get that message I wrote about earlier, come up on the screen and you DEFINITELY cannot get Outlook Express to fire up. Anything other than that, and I am not sure if doing what I did would help. I only received that ONE LINE MESSAGE across the screen - that was all. Good Luck in your endeavours Dodge7. .....David

Hmmm... maybe having Win 98 and Win 2000 on the same partition damaged the file.
Still, I noticed we both did an email transfer, and it intially worked, then later Outlook Express gave the "Can't load file.." message. Whatever the case at least you found the way to solve this. Roger |
