syndmail.dll

On my friend's computer there is a probleml whenever it loads Windows 98. As soon as it gets to the desktop It says "This program has performed and illeagal operation..." The program is explorer. Under details it says "Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module SYNDMAIL.DLL at 0187:10017d5c" It goes on to contain:

You can spend a bunch of time trying to find the exact cause/fix or just save all that time and just do an over-the-top repair. Assuming you/he has the original 98 CD. Here's GR's sticky thread:

SYNDMAIL? Check your spelling, please. If it's SENDMAIL, try repairing IE. If not, that has to be malware.

It is SYNDMAIL....It must be malware. I tried to do an adaware scan on their computer, but it froze on the deleting stage. It found over 1000 critical objects...Maybe If I can use spybot or something else.

1000 critical objects is a prime candidate for nuke and pave. Good luck. Virus scan first, before going after spyware.
