Windows XP System Requirements

I am getting my dad Windows XP for chistmas, and then wiping his system and installing it and securing his system. His computer is about 6 years old. I need to know what the System requirements are for XP. I looked at microsoft but couldn't really find anything and I googled it. If any one know I'd appreciate it thanks.

the "minimum" system requirements for XP may state as low as 128Mgs Ram... but the performance will be horrific... anything less than 256 will crawl..
You may be better off with a fresh install of window 98SE or even windows 2000 pro..
IF you do decide to try XP... you will want to do some serious tweaking...
I highly recommend using XPSmoker, .... and TuneXP ...
you should turn off all unnecessary services and optimize as much as you are able... It will greatly speed up windows in general... maybe even enough to be usefull...lol

JP, minimum RAM is 64mb. I reckon you could run it on 128mb if you had minimum settings and no intensive tasks.

The minimum RAM required is 128 MB, but it would be really slow. It is better to have 512 MB.

The weakest machine I've ever seen XP on is a K6-2/350 with 64 ram and a 3.2gb hard drive- and it ran like molasses in January. I do not recommend it on anything less than a 500 MHz with 256 ram and a 10gb hard drive. If the computer is 6 years old and you want stability, 2000 Pro is a better bet - it will run okay on a 233 with 128 ram and 4gb hard drive.

Why do you want to upgrade the OS? (I assume it has 98 on it?) You need a good reason to upgrade - and just "because I can" is not a good reason.
