upgrade from 98SE to XP unsuccessful.
hi
i tried to upgrade an 98SE OS to windows xp proffesional. during the installation a blank blue screen appeared and the computer freezed. i tried to turn it on again and only got to the same screen. i can enter the xp in safe mode but i don't know for what to look for and where. can it be because of the fat32 file system? can anybody help me. thanks amos |

dos your system meet the requirements for xp ?
did you use a store bought cd of xp-pro or a copy of one ? |

Get it into safe mode and uninstall XP - it should revert to 98 without too much junk left behind.
Then, if you really want XP, back up your data and wipe the drive, and install XP clean - IF your system meets minimum requirenments for XP. Not all systems will upgrade gracefully - and yours may be one of those that doesn't. Did you clean up your 98 install before trying to upgrade, and did you read the upgrade report before proceeding? Upgrading a "dirty" operating system gives you a VERY dirty upgrade. |

If you put the XP cd in your machine it will autostart, from there you can run the compatibility wizard and check to see what hardware or software incompatibility issues you may or maynot have.
If you have any incompatibilities it will print the details to a notepad file and you could post it here so that we can try and help you with those issues.

it was very easy to go back to win 98.
as you suspected the upgrade report had a few problems . i am working on solving them and i'll try again. thankx again |
