Serial Pci port drivers

not sure if this goes here but i might as well try. on my laptop, i have a cardbus port on the side that i use for my ethernet card. the problem is, windows xp does not detect the card itself. it only keeps saying ethernet controller with the new hardware wizard, but it also then comes up with a pci port new hardware wizard. i have installed the drivers for the network card, but windows keeps telling me i need to install the serial pci port drivers. i don't have the disc that came with the computer because it did not come with it when i bought it used.

also when i first got this computer, it was running windows 2000 and worked fine for a while. after about 3-4 months, the pci cardbus port just stopped working randomly. i tried reformatting and reinstalling windows 2000 which didn't work. xp has done nothing also

sounds like the port has gone bad, or the drivers for it is bad, you may need to go to the mfg's web site and download all the drivers fo it

then it looks like the only resource for you is the dell sight, and they do/ should have all the drivers there for that system, or find somebody that has the same computer and make a copy od there cd.

the interesting thing about w2k is that it does have a lot of drivers built into it that probly worked ok on that system.

I had a problem like yours in my laptop that was just given to me ( its old ) I had to change in the bios the setting from pcmcia to cardbus . I also had to get other driver updates which I selected the option box windows update. Did you get a cd with your network card?

The Serial PCI Port is usually a modem, not a NIC. If the Xircom is a combo 56k modem/NIC, install the Xircom modem drivers in addition to the NIC drivers.
