ERROR: No disk in A: Drive
I have a Windows 2000 system that is experienceing a strage problem. Whenever I run various applications (Medal of Honor, Quake 2, etc..) I'll get an error message that there is no disk in the A: drive.
If I hit cancel, it comes back up in a few seconds. If I put a diskette in the a: dirive, it accesses it, and dosen't come back up. If I keep a disk in the A: drive at all times, I never see the message. I've examined the programs that were throwing the error, and none of them are pointed to the A: in their properties. My guess is that there is some system file that is linking to the A: drive, but I can't find it. So far I've checked the AUTOEXEC.BAT and the CONFIG.SYS Can anyone give me some ideas on what to check? Thank you, in advance! |

GLC,
I tried as you suggested, but nothing has changed. The exact error message is: "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive A:" One of the programs that is thowing this error is MOHAA.exe (Medal of Honor). |

I don't know W2K, Zap Branagen, but here's a couple WAGs: Have you tried turning off your antivirus program and see what happens? Have you checked your path at the command prompt to see if the A drive snuck in there somehow?
Also, have you checked the Win.ini and System.ini files? (I'll guess that W2K has these...) And any .ini files associated with programs that give the error? |

Yes, 2K has system.ini and win.ini for backwards compatibility. You can view them by copying MSCONFIG.EXE from a XP box into c:\winnt and running it.

Tworails, your comment on the path was correct. I did find a reference that cited "A:\".
It took me forever to find out how to remove it though... Right click on My Comptuer and select properties Select the "Advanced" tab Select the "Environmental Variables" button In the "System variables" window, check for the value of the "Path" variable Select that "path" variable and click on edit. Remove the reference and save. Reboot. Thank you Tworails and everyone else who tried to help! |
