SP2 not recogniosing CD's or DVD's

I installed SP2 onto my PC running XP Pro and now neither the DVD or the Rewriter recognise me putting a CD or DVD in them. It keeps giving the message Insert CD. When I get it eventually to get past this and do a Windows Explorer on either drive it thinks they are all empty and contain no files or folders.

Installed SP2 onto my laptop running XP Home and it has exactly the same problem there both with CD's I burned on the laptop and other CD's including the Microsoft Office Suite CD. It just thinks they are all blank.

HELP ???

Trevor

I had to upgrade the firmware on my CDRW after installing service pack 2. The system would hang at 10% when burning a disc. Try searching for some new firmware for your drive(s).

Same @#$$%! problem

I have exactly the same problem. I have downloaded and installed the latest firmware for both my DVD and CD drives, I have downloaded and installed the latest version of Nero. I still have the same difficulty. My Computer sees the drives but not the disk or it's contents. I have contacted MS and Sony (my DVD maker) both of them point at the other. I tried uninstalling SP2 but the only thing that did was stop some other programs from working.

Since we now have two threads going on this topic, I thought I'd refer future replies to the most recent thread (it contains all the relavant repair ideas so far) . . . http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=116408
