Win95 boot failure

I have a Fujitsu 8.4 meg hard drive that will
no longer boot Windows 95. If I boot directly
to the hd the monitor screen is blank-no POST,
no DOS. If I boot with the boot disk I can
change to the hd and access the C: drive and
DOS. If I attempt to launch Windows with the
"win" command the following message is displayed:

VFAT device initialization failed

Ifshlp.sys is in c:\windows and msdos.sys has
all the correct path statments.

You need to run tests on the hard drive.

http://www.fcpa.fujitsu.com/download...es/FJDT_62.zip

Instructions:

If the drive tests good, it's probably time for an "over the top" reinstall of Windows.

The fjdt test found no faults with the drive. I re-installed Windows. So far, so good. I must admit I've lost some confidence in the system.

How many years has it been since you reinstalled Windows? If it's Win95 I'm betting it's been quite a few.

This is the first time. I bought the machine in April of 1997.

I don't run the machine constantly, I shut down each night. The system is very stable, until recently there were very few Blue Screens.
