BSOD after SP2 install.

I've just completed a new build, I've done a clean install of XP Pro, no problems. I then install SP2 and get the Blue Screen with the message MACHINE_CHECK_EXEPTION 0x0000009c (0x00000000, 0x8054DA70, 0x400c000, ox00000136). I also get a message saying that I should disable BIOS memory options such as shadowing or caching. I've done a quick Google search and it's some kind of hardware fault, I was just hoping somebody here could help me out. Cheers.

Ian.

Send a message via AIM to Panama Red
If you did the SP2 upgrade BEFORE you did the motherboard drivers that may have caused the problem. Proper install sequence should be XP first, mobo drivers, then SP2 and windows updates.

It's an extremely far reaching error code, but it boils down to meaning that a particular h/w entity in your computer is being forced to perform beyond spec. Are you overclocking? Go through your BIOS settings and make sure that you are not running anything faster than it is rated to go. The easiest issues to check are CPU frequency and settings, memory settings, etc. I would also recommend trying the Fail-safe BIOS settings on your computer and see if it works fine. If the issue doesnt correct out, I would also consider running a memory test.

Thanks for the replies. Nothing is overclocked in the system. I've run 27 passes of Memtest86 overnight without any failures. This morning I booted in to safe mode in order to remove SP2 but the same thing has happened again. Panama Red, you may be right. I did install SP2 before the mobo drivers, if I can manage to remove SP2 then I will install the drivers and try again.

Thanks for that EzyStvy, I will try the Recovery Console method when I've got time. Cheers.
