Outlook & WinMe Add/Remove & Install Problem
I'm tiring to load outlook on my computer with windows ME. I've tried reinstalling it through the add/remove program that didn't work (A error box came up saying that the file they needed might be corrupted). I tried a defrag, I tried a scan disk. I tried system restore. And so obviously the logical next move is to download it trough windows update. But this computer isn't hooked to the internet.
One of the first error boxes I receive when I try to use the add/remove program's windows setup system is this... C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\oeimport.dll The file may not have been installed or is corrupted. This continues with oemiglib.dll and then msoe.dll and then setup50.exe and then wabimp.dll and then finally wabfind.dll. If I knew how maybe I could grab these files off the Win Me CD it self.

You can use System File Checker to extract files from your Windows CD.
Go to Start>Run, type in "sfc" (without the quotes), click OK. Type in the name of the file you want to extract, click the Start button. Point it at your CD drive with the Windows CD in it as the place to extract it from and put C:\Program Files\Outlook Express as the folder to save it in. Do that for each file you need, changing the path to the folder to save it in depending on what folder the uninstall wizard told you it should be. |

Just curious - why do you need Outlook Express if the computer is not connected to the Internet?
Windows Update is the easiest way to get it - it comes with IE6. |

LOL, its for my PDA. Although I don't need the internet or e-mail feature I do use the calendar and tasks feature allot.
I found a sort of update and detection program for IE6 (which is a small program that downloads IE6 for you). But sense the computer that is hooked to the net has XP the program detected that and began to download IE6 for Windows 2000/Windows XP. I did the Start>Run, type in "sfc" and pressed the ok. But it said "you may have typed the name incorrect ..." I also tried using the find for files and folders program. I searched on D: with the Win ME cd and it didn't find any thing. I tried to uninstall outlook and reinstall it using the CD that came with my PDA. But again after I finished and then tried to run outlook it said "You must have outlook 4.01 or greater" Which is Confusing. I don't understand how it could be missing any thing if I already installed it. (The version of outlook I installed using my PDA's CD is "Outlook 2002") |

Outlook is not part of Windows - it's part of MS Office. Outlook Express is a totally different animal.

I think windows me installed outlook express components when I first installed the computer. Some how these components are later on installed, could be wrong but. So now these same files have been corrupted and will no longer properly install.
Reinstalling the OS is out of the question right now. (Lots of other problems still worked on)
