First install Windows. Make a partition about half the size of the hard drive for Windows. Once Windows is installed put in the Linux disc and it will detect the Windows partition. It will ask you if you want to install over it or make a new partiotion using all available space. Choose the second one.
Now when it boots it will give an option of either OS.

By the way, I wouldn't give HALF the HDD. Linux doesn't take up much space and it's not as if you're going to have a large ammount of Linux programs.
ThePoor, check out the latest version of PM, I've found it a lot better than the previous versions. Ignore the "install a new OS" option, just select resize your petition and put aside 4-5gb for Ext3 (the new Linux file system). Then boot from the Linux CD and instruct it to install in that partition. When I did that with Mandrake 10, Lilo automatically detected my XP install and offered it on the boot menu. Have been using that dual boot ever since without problems

I did that myself. I already had Windows on my HD. I used the Suse 9.1 parition tool [look around, I think it is part of YaST] to create a new partition, and then told Suse to install Linux there. It worked. When you start the Linux loader gives you a choice of the Windows or Linux.
When you uninstall Linux, follow instructions closely. Don't just format the partion where Suse was, like I did. You might find Windows doesn't work. |
