JPG Pictures

Question:

I have a two year old Dell Dimension 4500 Pentium 4. I'm using Windows XP and for my e-mailing I'm using Outlook Express 6. My question is, why can I see jpg pictures most of the time, but then there's times I can't ? What I mean is, my friends e-mail me pictures and most of he time if there jpg I can see the pictures. But there's been other times they send jpg pictures and I can't see them. All I see is a white box ( were the picture suppose to be ) with a little red x. I'm using Outlook Express 6 like I said, is there some settings I should change ?
Thanks for your time.
