XP install problem

i just built a computer and am trying to run XP professinal for the first time. When i do it runs through the blue screen installing the drivers and when it gets to "windows it starting up" before the install screen the computer automatically restarts and always restarts at that point. What could be causing this?

ok

AMD Sempron 2500+
Elitegroup K7VTA3 Motherboard
DRAM PC 3200 256mb Also replaced and tested with generic 128 MB ram also
ASUS 52X CD-R
Western Digital 80 GB hard drive

I tried running the install CD in both fail safe and optomized in the bios and the problem hits at the exact same place on either settings

Where did you get the CD from?

Check the jumpers on the motherboard to make sure that it is not resetting.

Make sure the motherboard isn't resetting on startup. You can check in the motherboard manula to find out where it is.

I understand that. You have to check that the jumper isn't set to reset the motherboard on startup.

i tried that and it still messes up. I took another computer and connected the hard drive and now i am having problems trying to get XP to load too. I assume it is the hard drive unless you think it could be something else

If you have a spare hard drive try using it and see if it works. So far it sounds like a bad hard drive.
