Unresponsive Desktop icons
Hi all,
What might cause icons on the desktop to become unresponsive, i.e. when you double click on them nothing happens? The OS on the machine is Windows XP Home. Is this a driver issue or could it be caused by software? Thanks in advance. |

If the program(s) open fine through the Start, Program, Effected program you may want to delete the original desktop shortcut icon and create a new one. Possibly the path was corrupted

That happens to me rather frequently. As TPM says, I just create a new shortcut.

Well guys, I'm actually a little embarrased by this one, but it turns out that the mouse double click speed was set too fast (i.e you have doubleclick very fast for icons to launch). Slowing things down did the trick. Thanks again for all the help.

I thought it was going to be the old "alt-Print Screen" trick that got him. For those of you not familiar, this makes for a nice little prank for your annoying coworkers.
(removed by moderator) Voila! You have a desktop with pix of all the icons, but they are actually part of the desktop background! Hopefully this post isn't against forum rules, as no animals were hurt in the making of this post. Last edited by Panama Red; 12-08-2004 at 10:53 PM. |

Providing techniques to maliciously manipulate someone else's computer runs contrary to forum rules. I edited your post for that reason.

Sorry, Panama. Wasn't meant to be malicious, more of just a prank. Point well taken and will not happen again.

In the future, if you are in doubt whether something is against the forum rules, read the rules before posting it.
