greedo Slow performance on a PC...

Hello all,

I am having a little trouble lately with my pc . It has been doing crazy things like:

Taking a minute to open programs like microsoft word and
sisoftware .

Ocassionally freezing when lightly multitasking

Sometimes even powering down (especially while playing a game)

So far I have:

All of the CPU settings to stock

Checked all of my hard drive configurations

Deleted all unecessary files

Ran antivirus, adaware, and spyware

Ran a registry cleaner

Defragged

What else can I do? Thanks

Hey, gotta same problem but worse...

Yeah, gotta same problem as well as yours. I have a computer in my school lab and another one in the classroom behaves entirely like this:

No processor activity or HDD activity, but still not responding even when I press Ctrl+Alt+Del... Sometimes connecting to the net aggravates the situation more. Starting the programs when the computer is connected to the net is like heck. The mouse pointer with the hourglass keeps on showing, but no signs of processing in computer... It's like uh... unresponsive... After a few minutes then the whole programs I've clicked splashed in front of my monitor screen... Tried defragging the pc and scanned for viruses, but still the same. Only the operating system started 'gunking' up after a month of installing it.

Well the nearest solution is to reformat the whole comp and reinstall Windows XP. I may be wrong, and please correct me if you have a better solution than this.

You said that you installed and uninstalled a lot of programs, programs are notorious for not deleting everything they install when you uninstall, especially if they install some spyware. Take a look at this first and see if you recognise anything after running it, it's called "Myuninstaller" and it is a bit more revealing that windows add and remove programs.
http://www.nirsoft.net/ scroll down it is there in the list.

The other thing you might want to consider is running your antivirus and malware scans in safemode with system restore turned off, but please have a read of this thread for an insight on the pro's and con's of disabling system restore.

Ok I found the problem, it was norton antivirus. It was slowing everything down. Thanks Villarosa, that program really worked well too.
