Hi All:
Is there anyway to make a window that set to open in it's maximized setting, but won't? I have to right click the shortcut icon and select "Open in Same Window" or go to the View tab and click Full Screen to get full screen. Left clicking the icon the window only opens in "Normal Window". Any help will be very much appreciated, and thanks ahead of time. OS: Win98, IE: 5.5, 512mb Ram, Have a great Thanksgiving!!!, Bill Lane

This is a bug in Internet Explorer that has never been fixed. (You weren't specific enough, but I assume you are referring to IE windows, right?)
Stretch, do not maximize, the new window - then close the ORIGINAL window with the X, holding the Shift key down. Then shift-close the new window. |

Hi glc:
Yes I did mean IE windows, as usual I didn't really say what I should have said :-( What I should have said was when I left click an HTML shortcut it opens "Maximized", but not full screen, if I want to open it in full screen, which I do, I have to right click the HTML shortcut icon, select "Open in Same Window". My Gif and Jpg files all open full screen, it's just the HTML files that I have to go through the above steps to get full screen. I was hoping there might be some way to get these HTML files to open full screen when I just left click them. Sorry about not being clear on this the first time :-( Thanks, Bill Lane |

For reasons known only to Microsoft programmers, IE remembers the size of the last window closed as long as it was a secondary window, then uses that for all future secondary windows...so long as you don't resize it using the Maximize button.
The steps for forcing all secondary windows to open maximized: 1. Open IE, go to a page with links 2. Open a link in a new window 3. With the left mouse button held down, grab the corners/edges of the secondary window and drag it to the size and placement you want. Do not use the maximize button. 4. Close the original window first - important step, don't overlook it! 5. Close the window you just resized All future IE secondary windows will open using the size and placement of the window you closed in step 5. |

Thanks MIZ:
That works just fine, but I don't have a problem in that area, in my first post I didn't really explain what I was trying to do, but in answering glc I think I got it right. It's not opening an HTML file shortcut full screen, it just opens "Maximized", to get full screen I either have to right click the HTML shortcut icon, select "Open in Same Window", or Click the View tab and click Full Screen. I was hoping there might be some way to get these HTML files to open full screen when I just left click them. Thanks again, Bill Lane |
