I thought I had read somewhere that changing hardware in your comp can cause XP to lock out users until they get a new activation number or something... Is that correct?
I'm planning on changing the processor in my machine. Is that limited enough that it won't cause a problem?

It shouldn't lock you out for 30 days. Changing just a processor shouldn't trigger it, but if it does, just re-activate it, by phone if necessary.

Thanks, Stat. The PCMech Tip of the Day for today was a write up on the technical aspects of Activiation. Now I know... and knowing is half the battle.

Just don't be scared off by the wording when you are prompted about activation. The first time I had to reactivate, it was worded in such a way that I had activated my copy too many times and that I had to PURCHASE a new copy.... I don't think so bub... anyway.. no... you don't need to repurchase... just need to phone in to reactivate.
