server OS's

i help my school's IT as part of my training for A+ and the school is talking about upgrading their server from 2000 to something new and they want me to do some research on it. i found windows 2003 server and something called windows 2003 enterprise. i heard someone say that 2003 enterprise was the same as 2003 server but then i heard someone say it was a desktop OS. what is it?

thanks!

Enterprise is a stronger version of 2003 server, it doesn't have the limitations of normal server, it can use greater that 4GB of RAM and more than 2 CPU's.

Neither is suitable as a desktop OS.

over 4 GB of RAM and more than 2 CPU's? nice!! is that the only differences in it?

are there any other windows server OS's out there that i might want to look into?

It is basically just a way for Microsoft to confuse people with licensing. Here are the differences between the flavors of Windows 2003 Server.
