Unhappy CD-RW Unusable when full

When I write files to my cd-rw they get a 'Read-only' attribute. When I try to remove the read-only so that I can delete old files after the disc is full, I get the error message "Access is denied". I am logged on the XP as 'Owner'.

Any ideas?

Where are you trying to delete the files from? Are you in Explorer? Do you use a prgram to write and delete?

I think xp built in cd software is for cdr and not for cdrw's
I have found that the best way to use the cdrw disks is to format it first, then you can use it like a very big floppy disk, you can cut and past and drag and drop without going through the xp writeing program, you also can delete any file at any time.
I never use the xp writeing software

Some of you know this I know, but I found out something interesting about CD_RW's that I thought was worth sharing...

If you use and re-use CD-RW's a lot (i.e. copying files, deleting/adding files, backing up etc etc) the disk will eventually fill up, well, it will seem full when in fact there is more room (but you just don't see it), it becomes fragmented similar to a hard drive and has no way to correct it (not to my knowledge anyway). It is difficult for me to explain why/how, but you can reclaim some of this lost space back by occasionally copying all the files from the CD-RW back onto your hard drive, formatting the CD-RW again then moving the files back onto the disk. This arranges all the files in order from the beginning of the disk again freeing up more space at the end.

Also, CD-RW's are great but they don't last forever, and like floppies they should never be relied on too much. You get what you pay for as with everything, but CD-RW's are that cheap really for what purpose they serve. Where I work, they get in a habit of reusing CD-RW's for backups over long periods of time, without replacing them, i cringe at the thought of one day they start to fail... at least they are using one per day over the week (so 7 all up)

Sorry about my rambling I get carried away sometimes

Keep Rambling... I dont use CD/RW's much but I do use a lot od DVD/RW's, I like to check what I am doing before commiting a new DVD/R to a project and have it screw up on me. Interesting about the formating the CD/RW, wonder if it is the same principal for DVD/RW?

Currently I only have the Roxio suite. It looks like it only deals with audio files.
