How to set up CALS

Ok so im going to install windows 2000 server and I have five cals.

If I put the os on five pc's but later decide to get ride of one pc leaving me with four, do I get that one cal back?

I'm not sure you understand CAL's (Client Access Licenses), they are not connected to a workstation OS.

They are used to control server access, the server does not "know" which system is accessing its resources it is only concerned with limiting the access to the number of CAL's installed.

So if you have 5 CAL's and try to access the server with 6 systems you will get an error message.

If you have 5 systems and then take away one this does not affect the CAL's.

you can only install the OS on 1 PC. The CAL's allow clients (with their own legal OS's) to connect to that server. So a 5 CAL allows 5 clients to connect.
