Monitor viewing problem

My problem involves three areas: XP OS, software upgrade (QuickBooks 2002 Pro to QB 2004 Pro), and my monitor. After difficulty installing QB 2004 from 2002, and a long time talking to Intuit Tech Support, I uninstalled the QB 2004 Pro and deleted the directory in Program Files. After reinstalling the new version (and turning off calling for any of the upgrades), the program is functioning properly.

My problem is that now my screen...the background picture and colors are all correct and positioned correctly. There is a two inch horizontal 'no mans land' across the top of the screen. Remember I said the background picture and colors are as they should be, yet I cannot put an icon any higher than about two inches from the top of the screen. Also, when I start QuickBooks, the top of the program...maximized...is two inches below the top yet the background picture continues to the top. It is like the top two inches are 'off limits'.

I have tried to make changes with Display, played with the buttons on the monitor, degaussed, turned off and on, etc, etc.

What is the answer to this perplexing problem?

Thanks...Phil
