I want to refomat a Emachine computer and reinstall Winxp for a friend but he says he bought it new but it didn't come with a recovery disk.It has a product key sticker on the case.I've heard of this before.New computers with no recovery disk. How cheap can you get.Anyone know how to go about reinstalling winxp on this junk.I suppose I'll have to contact the manufacturer and ask for a disk.Is there any way to do this without going through that hassle? Thanks

Have a look through the programs list you will probably find Emachines' own system recovery tool buried in there somewhere.

If you have an OEM copy of XP, you can legally install it using the key number on the case sticker, and it will probably accept the key.

I have my own copy of xp I can use for it but I'm worried I won't be able to find all the drivers for audio, video, lan and all that.Maybe I'll try it with another hard drive first.
