Question Several programs quit responding with XP

Good Day Folks:

I'm a graphic artist and I've been experiencing a problem over the last several days, a few of my graphic and scanning programs stop responding, my programs were working fine before. If I do Ctrl-Alt-Delete the program in question indicates "Not responding". IE. HP scanning and imaging program won't start sometimes have to reboot to start. Corel Essentials peroidically stop resonding. Same with Corel 9 but it doesn't seem to effect Adobe Photoshop 5 so far. I preformed regular maintenance, spyware scan weekly, anti virus scan weekly, disk clean, defrag, update critical updates. Has anybody got any suggestions?

Sys facts: AMD 1 G processor, 512 MB Ram, Nivida GeForce 2 MX 200 video card, 30 G HD, XP Home over Win Millenium, XP SP2, AD Ware, Norton Anti Virus, Coreldraw 9, Photoshop 5, Xara1, Corel Essentials OME, Hp Scan and Imaging, Kodak Easy Share digital camera program (New this month), Office 97. plus an number of other older programs.
Thanks
Thomsign

Stop Easy Share from running at startup. Run your older software in compatibility mode. Consider uninstalling XP SP2 (revert back to SP1). Get rid of Norton if it's not 2003. Make sure you have Ad-Aware 1.05 SE (NOT "ad ware"), use it, along with Spybot Search & Destroy 1.3. Consider wiping and reinstalling XP clean, reload software and data. XP upgrades over ME can turn ugly.

Thanks glc for replying.
I'll take the Kodak Easy Share program out of startup, but I do not understand the compatibility mode your talking about. I know about MS compatibility but not the mode
I'm using Ad Aware 1.05SE, and if need be I'll reinstall Windows but that's a monster of a job as you know.
Thanks very much

If you look in Programs> Accessories you will see a compatibility wizard, this can help you get a program that previously ran well in another version of windows to run OK with XP.

Actually you can just right click on the shortcut - properties - there's a Compatibility tab.
