Basic question on drivers

Hi friends,

Just a basic question on driver installation / updation. What is the difference between:

a) Installing a driver by right clicking its .inf file and choosing Install and
b) Going to Device Manager and pointing the location of the driver to the folder containing the driver's inf file and choosing Next-->Next and Finish

Just wanted to know the difference between a) and b)

Thanks a lot
Gautam

There is none. You can do it either way.

I may be wrong on this, but I would have thought just clicking the .inf file would force the installation of that driver, where as installing it via device manager would allow windows to acertain which is the most upto date and more suitable driver of the two. (that is, if a driver is already installed for the device.)
If there is no driver installed already then as RJ says "there is no difference"

i think device manager allows 2 options, letting you choose the location of where the driver file is locally, or lookin on the internet. i think gautamzone meant that he was selecing the .inf file as the location.
