Can't see cd and cd rw

Have prob. can't see my cd and cd rw in my control panel. Also in my bios there is this HALT on and that came up when i switch my ribbons around for my cd and cd rw cause father said they were incorrect, but i switched them back and still can't see....

You may have put the ribbon cable in backwards, there is a red stripe that goes to pin 1 side of the connector, or the master slace setting may now be messed up. Can U give a little more info as to exactly how that are hooked up..
