Unhappy Uninstall Win 98

How do I unstall Win 98 from the Hdd? I made it all one partition C: what happens to the floppy drive when you do the unstall? it's a new Hdd,want to do a reinstall of the OS. Can it be done from MS-Dos Prompt fdisk or format whatever, I just want to clean up the Hdd. Emerson

Hello Emerson,

You need to create a boot disk and boot into the DOS prompt. Then you have run FDISK and remove whatever the partition that you want to remove.

Then you put in the new hard drive. Create the partition in FDISK, and then FORMAT within Windows setup.

yes, you cannot uninstall it, you just delete it.

there is the case where w98 would be a upgrade from w95 and then if you saved everything , you could uninstall it, but I don't think that is what your case is.

If you make a EBD and put deltree on it, you can uninstall it. You would need to delete the msdos.sys file on root and deltree the windows directory on the hard drive.
Or you could do it through the command prompt if you chose that route on bootup, but you would need to get deltree to the root directory since it would get wiped out and no longer be available in some circumstances.
Just be aware it takes forever (well, longer than you would want to wait) and the fdisk method above is the better choice for most people. I could forsee a couple of reasons to do it, but not in the ordinary course of reinstalling.

You can wipe the drive with KillDisk and then start over.

In your case the hdd is new...then you should make the partitions through fdisk....you can get fdisk from the boot floppy or the bootable cd of Windows 98se...
then you can just reinstall from the cd.
