Operating System

I am building a new computer and am considering going with Microsoft Windows XP Media Center 2005 as the operating system, instead of XP Pro. I have not done much research yet, just looking to find out what other people think of XP Media Center. I have used XP Pro on all my computers so I am framiler with it. I plan on mainly using my new computer for downloading tv shows, music videos, songs; and watching them or editing them. That is why I am looking into XP Media Center. Any opinions would be helpful.

Sorry, no help here but I was also thinking about putting MS Media Edition on my pc for the same reasons. I would probably dual boot either Pro or Home for others that don't know Media Edition to have the ability to use the pc and maybe for myself, I don't know. How is Media with Word and Excel and other common tasks? Viruses? Compatiblity?

TO my knowledge you can't buy Media Center alone, you buy it preinstalled on a computer. Maybe I am wrong.

Yup, guess I was wrong

Seeing as how it is Windows at its core, it would still be vulnerable to the same flaws and virii, and be compatible with the same things, just with the addition of "new features that let you watch and record TV, manage your music, play DVDs, and more, Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 gives you a remarkable new way to experience digital media in your home," right?

It would seem so, but the fact that it is just another version of Windows, as you point out, that it would also be suseptable to BSODs and all the other wonderful things we've come to love about Windows

Personally I would only use WMC for an HTPC. If you are using it as a regular machine then just use XP.
