Trouble Installing XP Home

My original disk I thing is bad. Tried to reinstall on a new hd, and I get this message NTLDR is missing. What is this all about. I had my system to boot from the cdrom drive first, but now I can't get it to work.

When you say the disk is bad do you mean the Windows CD or the hard drive?

The message means one of the system files was deleted or is corrupt. You may need to do a repair install.

CD for sure. I reinstalled the drive using Western Digital utilities disk, so everything was wiped. I did this once before a while back and this is the first time I ran into this problem. If the disk is bad then What am I haven to go a buy another one all over again. I have had this version for 2 yrs now.

just a thought
you might look at it to see if there are any finger prints or smuges on itor even a scratch would do it, if there is a littel cleanning might help it.

I got that message if I leave my driver diskette in the floppy drive. I need it for my USB/Ethernet Adapter, and when I restart I forget to remove the floppy.

See if you have a driver that isn't installed completely or correctly.

Maybe you can repair windows without erasing all your work.

Is the Windows CD scratched or just defective?

I went to microsoft and found a bunch of articles on the issue. No there are no scratches and I did clean it. I'm going to download the file that is missing onto a floopy and try that. I read , that when you reinstall the OS the missing files will come from the floopy. I'll let you know how I make out. Thanks again.
