I had no problem seeing the graphics the other day in my emails but now all I see are red x's. I have just installed SP2 and was thinking it might be the problem. I tried adjusting the firewall it comes with to allow outlook stuff but it didnt work. I was wondering what else might I try. I have XP op.

Go to tools --> Options --> Security Tab and make sure that you don't have "block images and other external content" checked

I just figured it out myself.
I opened outlook and went to options and then clicked on securities tab and then unchecked blocked images box and switched the security zone to Internet zone. Thanks for the quick reply. For some reason after the windows updated with the SP2, it changed these settings.

And with good reason. Given the % of spam mails, its a good idea to turn off graphics. It's no longer enough to ignore spam mails, not allowing their images to load is a better way of preventing knowledge of your email address' existence. Once you let an image load from a spammers' site, you have confirmed the existence of your email address and also helpfully supplied them with your IP address too.
Microsoft has done a good job in making this the default option, one that follows even on Hotmail. Look carefully at the email with the images blocked; you will have a yellow bar to indicate that the images are blocked; clicking on the yellow bar will give you more options. |
