Exclamation Help Please!

I was over @ my friends house today and we were upgrading his Windows media player. It downloaded everything fine, and then it said to restart, so i clicked restart and his computer froze. So we manually rebooted and now his desktop will not load. And im the one to blame because i was the one that made him upgrade it to the current version. I have no idea what kind of computer he has, let alone the specs of the computer. All i know he has windows ME. He also seems to have replaced his ME Disk so reformatting right now isnt possible. So if he were to start in safe mode would he be able to do a system restore or something because im feeling reallly guilty right now, and his parents are gonna get p.o'ed at him for screwing up the computer. Help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Yes if you can get into safe mode (tap F8 at startup), you should be able to do a system restore.
