Gif animator XP problem
Have been installing some of my programs from my old computer running ME to the new one running XP.
I installed a program called 3dgif and it installed okay and appeared to be working okay but when i shut the program down (clicked the X in the top right corner) the computer immediately re-booted itself. I tried several times and the same thing. XP just rebooted. I uninstalled it and tried again and the same thing happened. I have a similar program but not quite as good and this installed and works okay. I was very familiar with 3dgif though and would prefer to have it if I could. The hard drive on my old computer is configured FAT 32 of course and XP NTFS and was wondering if this is causing the problem. If this is the case, is it possible to install the drive from my old computer as a secondary drive and still keep FAT 32 on that drive so I could still use the program. This drive has windows ME still installed on it, would I have to uninstalll ME to have the drive as a secondary drive or would that cause some kind of a conflict. Just for the record, 3dgif is a software program for creating animated Gifs. Its a Ulead product.

In some instances it helps to make use of the XP compatibility wizard. This is worth a try:

Control panel, system, advanced, startup and recovery. Uncheck the restart on error box. This will cause the computer to bluescreen instead of reboot, and you can read the bluescreen for clues as to why it's happening. Have you checked the program manufacturer's website for any issues related to XP - and specifically SP2 if that's what you have? I've dealt with several programs lately that need patches to run under XP SP2, the compatibility wizard won't even fix them. |
