Question Install 98SE on top 98

Can I install 98 SE on top of 98? I have the CD and diskette How do I go about it. One other thing. When I installed 98 I used the CD-Rom as the first boot device because I used the CD to install 98. Does it make a difference what device is your first or second?. Emerson

Boot from CD to a DOS prompt with CD support... change to your windows directory and rename or delete the WIN.COM file, switch to your CD drive and run the setup. When prompted for an install directory, it will be defaulted to C:\WINDOWS.000, remember to change that back to C:\WINDOWS or else you will have a clean install. If you forgot and do that by accident, check the tips and tricks section of the forums... I give instructions on how to reverse that.

No, you do not need to run Fdisk. You need to rename the file booted to true DOS - which booting with the CD will do. Choose start computer with CD support from the menu.

From the A prompt:

c:
cd windows
ren win.com win.old

Then reboot with the CD and choose setup Windows 98 from the menu.

If your 98SE CD is an UPGRADE CD, you don't have to do this - just put the CD in the drive when in Windows.
