updates fail

I am running win2kpro and when I download the updates from windows update they all faiil to install,been to the update troubleshooters page and did not find a solution to the problem,can anyone help me with this,please...

I also had trouble with the updates last night and finally just rebooted the computer.
There at start up was the icon again and this time it announced the install, which it proceeded to do.
After a restart it once again showed download update and I couldn't get rid of it till I'd downloaded the update for how XP's security center handled home networks, not one I needed or wanted.
Once again I had to reboot the computer in order to get it to show up as waiting to install.
There is something really weird with the automatic update and I'm considering disabling it all together and getting what I need from the M$ site manually.
