XP wont shutdown

I upgraded my comp from ME to XP and since then i have not been able to shutdown my comp without pressing power button. When i goto shut down it looks like it gonna shut down then stops.

Did you upgrade over the top of the ME? If so, that, unfortunately is the worst way to go. If it was me, I'd put the hard drive in another XP computer and save any vital files. Then reformat the whole thing with the XP disk and start over. Have the ME disk or any other legit Windows CD ready to insert when asked for proof of ownership. This may sound a little harsh but even if you are able to recover the existing system you'll still have the ME remnants to contend with.

If this is an older computer, it's a power management issue. Open control panel, power options. If it has an APM tab, click it and check the box to use advanced power management.
