removal of task bar items
Can someone please tell me how to remove icons from the task bar.ie.

You're talking about the bar on the bottom of your screen? The icons there can be removed by right-clicking and then clicking delete.

Im talking about the box at the bottom right corner.When i right click on an icon i get the menu for the item, certainly nothing that says delete.

That's different. Those are programs running in the background. And getting rid of them is different per application. What program do you want to get rid of, and if you don't know, upload a pic.

The one i want to get rid of is, local area network is unplugged as it sits there with a red cross on it at all times

I believe you can right-click on the icon, go to status and then click the properties button in the newly opened window which should open up your network properties for that connection. At the bottom should be a check box for showing an icon in the taskbar. Uncheck it and LMK if it works.

All i get with a right click is the option: open network connection.

Go to Control Panel/Network Connections and find the lan in question. Right click it and select disable. That will keep it from appearing next to the clock.

This is what happens, i get a message:Not possible to disable at this time. The connection may be using one or more protocols that do not support plug and play,or it may have been initiated by another user or system account.
The actual message alongside the icon on network page says: Local area connection network cable unplugged. |

That icon does not cause any problems...I would simply ignore it.
