Cant change my internet security level.....
When i go to the security tab in internet options and try to change the default security level to low it says "this setting is below the recommended level of medium, please choose a security level higher than medium" or something to that effect. What the heck is the deal, now microsoft isnt even going to let me manage my own settings? anyone else have this problem?

just tried it on my machine (XP SP2) and it worked. Maybe you have to be logged in as admin.

You probably have a virus/hijacker/etc installed. It overtakes your internet settings and makes it so you can't change them, I have had that happen to me before.
First step I would do is a virus scan with updated drivers, then an adaware scan with latest definitions and then a spybot scan again with the latest definitions. One step I have successfully used to get rid of something like that is to use system restore to a few days earlier, that may work, but I would only use it as a last ditch effort. Do your scans and update on what is found. |

My system come back clean too, the strange thing is that the problem is lowering the level, I'd imagine a virus etc would set it as low as possible and then stop you from raising it but I can raise it from my curent level to high with no problem.

Try this. Click on the Custom Level.. button and select Low from the drop down box. See if that solves it.

Just tried my security settings and they all work as advertised. I once got a virus after a fresh install of XP by going to the Norton AV site to down load the latest updates. If you connected to hte internet before you had your computer completely protected you might have spyware/virus. If adaware and spybot can't fix your problem you might have to reinstall the OS. Maybe that won't be such a problem since you just installed the OS and hopefully haven't spent a lot of time getting everything just right.
