Can't delete directory from earlier XP install

There's a user documents directory in my docs and settings directory that i can't remove. it's from an earlier install of windows xp on another motherboard. Ironically, i didn't reformat the drive for the express purpose of keeping this directory intact.Well, it's still intact. i can't delete it, can't open it, windows explorer claims it's empty, but half of the fragged files that can't be consolidated are from that directory.

A friend told me i should use the recovery console to delete the directory, but i haven't yet mastered the recovery console, so that's not working. if anyone can give me help, that would be great.

the path would be C:\Documents and Settings\[my name], but i can't get to it in the recovery console for some reason.

Wheever there are spaces in a directory or file name, you have to use quotes.....

cd\ c:\"documents and settings"\yourname\"local settings"\..............

Before you do that, try running chkdsk /f at a command prompt in Windows.
