Moving "My Computer"

While, I'm on a mission to rid my desktop of icons. So I'm moving everything to the start menu or possibly quick launch.

I have taken care of all but "My Computer". I found somewhere that if I simply delete the registry key, it would remove My Computer from the desktop, but I don't like to simply delete windows components like the my computer icon.

Right now, I placed a shortcut to my computer in the start menu by: Making a new folder on the desktop, dragging My Computer to the new folder, Windows complained and offered to make a shortcut (yay!). Next I moved this newly created shortcut to the start menu, however there is a small problem- the shortcut there doesn't open an explorer window to the location the my computer icon does, instead that shortcut allows me to browse my computer through my start menu, but they won't open an explorer window the various files and folders.... I really would prefer to open an explorer window instead... Any suggestions?

BTW, the OS is Windows 2000 (Yes, this would be a lot easier if I ran XP...).

TIA, L J

*Found another issue- I took my documents off the desktop, and now it no longer shows up when I go open a file....

When you move My Documents, try to follow the steps in this article based on the knowledgebase article for XP. This is how I move it using XP. 2000 should be similar, you just need to change the target path.

Good Luck
