XP Start Menu
Can anybody tell me how I can organize the program section of my start menu, it's frustratingly cluttered and It takes me five minutes to find anything on it. Also, if there is some way to keep it organized without having to do so constantly, could you also tell me?

Click Start/Programs. Right click anywhere on the program list. From the pop up window, select Sort By Name.

Try Making Folders and Sorting everything in there... Example... Put all Microsoft Office Programs in a Folder Called Microsoft Office
Graphic Programs in a folder called Graphic Programs...

Right click on the start button and select Explore All Users. This will open up the windows explorer .. just navigate to all Programs folder and do with the shortcuts just as you would with a normal Windows Explorer.
To note (since you are a Windows 2000 or Windows XP user), there are icons from 2 places that get added up to your start menu. One being C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu This is what opens up when you do "Explore All Users" - the other is from C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Start Menu ; this is a personalized menu. Generally speaking, you should see most of your programs install their shortcuts to the All users section. |

I have my Start Menu organized as Doobie stated. My folders are Accessories, Apps, Audio, Digital Cam, Games, Microsoft, Start Menu, Utilities, and Video. Just about everything then can be moved into one of those categories, keeping the initial menu nice & neat. If a program install doesn't allow you to pick the folder, you'll have to Explore All Users and move it where you'd like later.
