compressed folders

Hi
i've got a good computer with service pack 2( windows xp professional) on, is not opening compressed folders downloaded on a cd from the internet. while my laptop which has the same service pack is.
when i click on a zipped folder, an error message pops up compressed(zipped ) folder is invalid or corrupted. or window for search results comes up
your help is greatly appreciated

You can try to download a dedicated compression program like Winzip, WinRAR or Winace (there are evaluation versions available) and see if it will let you open the compressed file - sometimes if the compression program or version differs, you may get these error messages. If you get the same error message, then the file was corrupt to begin with or there was an error in downloading or in burning to CD.

i've already tried winzip and winrar both of them don't seem to make the trick. in fact the folder i have been using on another computer just 10 minutes ago and it had been working fine without the slightest problem.
it is definitely not corrupt.
