AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS on 2nd HD
I have 2 HDs. The first one holds my OS (win2k) and all programs. The second is a storage for mp3, document, and video files. Normally, there are no hidden files on the storage HD (except for "System Volume Information" and "RECYCLER")
However, upon showing hidden and OS files, I discovered that there are now some new files: AUTOEXEC.BAT CONFIG.SYS IO.SYS MSDOS.SYS What are these files, where did they come from, and how do I get rid of them? Thanks. |

thoes are the system files that are required to make a disk bootable.
to get rid of them, first you need to unhide them, then delete them, not sure if you also need to change the attributes. been a long time sence I had to do that. |

They are there for compatibility reasons. Old programs need to see them to work. We are talking OLD programs, tho.

Sounds like that drive used to have Win9x installed on it and you didnt reformat it when you made it a data drive.
